San Lorenzo

Just a few steps away from the Duomo you find the area of San Lorenzo, most famous for Basilica di San Lorenzo and the Central Market (Mercato Centrale) where you find fresh greens and poultry, local delicatessen and a variety of local food stands, great stop for lunch.

Between the Mercato Centrale and Basilica di San Lorenzo there is a daily leather market, located around a few blocks, where you can bargain everything from locally sourced leather jackets, handbags, belts and other accessories in fine Italian leather.

Santa Croce

The lively area of Santa Croce, where people are gathering in the evenings in one of the many bars and restaurants, to enjoy an aperitivo or dinner is another great spot to get the most out of your Florence trip.

The basilica Santa Croce, known for Giotto’s frescoes and the tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo is the mark for the neighbourhood as well as the vintage and fresh farmers market of Sant’Ambrogio, just a few minutes away.

Oltrarno

Oltrarno, (with the translation “Beyond the Arno”) covers the south side of the Arno river and here you find sites such the church Santo Sprito di Firenze, Palazzo Pitti and Piazzale Michelangelo; with a beautiful view of Florence.

In Oltrarno you find a lot of artisan shops and bars and restaurants.

The piazza of Santo Spirito is where locals meet up for aperitivo and dinner in the evening, and buy their daily greens from the local farmers market and where you usually find festive events such as live music, dance shows etc in the summer.
